During an extensive inspection campaign MECC has seized a storage facility for hazardous chemicals

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has seized a storage facility for hazardous chemicals that did not have a license, as part of an extensive inspection campaign conducted by the Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Management Department. Legal actions have been taken regarding the seizure, with a report being filed.

This action is part of the surprise inspections conducted by the Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Management Department on facilities, practices, and activities involving the handling of hazardous chemicals and waste. It involves monitoring related violations, filing reports, and providing relevant statistics.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is making significant efforts to preserve and protect the local environment from pollution. This includes regulating the trading of chemicals and hazardous waste, particularly those conducted outside the legal framework, which pose a threat to public health and the environment.

The campaign is part of the ministry’s efforts and plans to ensure that authorized entities adopt proper practices in managing and transporting chemicals, following international regulations, national standards, and necessary environmental programs for handling hazardous materials. This aims to minimize environmental impacts during transportation, packaging, storage, and manufacturing, as well as ensuring safety and prevention measures are in place.

The Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Management Department conducts periodic and surprise inspections in coordination with relevant authorities. This is based on the country’s database of chemicals and hazardous waste, established and continuously updated by the department. The inspection campaigns also rely on the state’s system for tracking chemicals and hazardous waste, developed and implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in coordination with relevant administrative units and various other relevant entities within the country.
