MECC participates in National Day activities with a special pavilion at Darb Al-Saai

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is participating in various activities as part of the National Day celebrations held at Darb Al-Saai, from December 10 to 18.

The events will take place in the evening, from 3 PM to 11 PM, and will include raising awareness about Qatar’s environment and its wide range of terrestrial and marine biodiversity through an environmental museum set up by the ministry. Additionally, the ministry will provide information on key requirements for the winter camping season, along with several programs and activities designed for children to familiarize them with Qatar’s environment.

The Ministry stated in a press release that the activities held at its pavilion contribute to instilling values of loyalty and patriotism in the younger generation. This is achieved by educating and raising awareness about all components of Qatar’s environment, including plants and animals. This environmental heritage is a significant legacy for the Qatari people, passed down from generation to generation. The ministry emphasized that Qatar is among the first countries to place great importance on its local environment and work towards preserving its resources for future generations. It is the duty of all official and civil institutions to introduce new generations to the legacy of their ancestors.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change stated that various departments of the ministry are participating in the Darb Al-Saai events. These include displaying models of animal biodiversity to educate visitors about the history of these animals, which helps in their conservation and proper care in their habitats. The events also highlight the ministry’s efforts in preserving and reintroducing species to the Qatari environment, such as monitoring the breeding of the Houbara Bustard. Additionally, the events aim to inform young people and visitors about Qatar’s important terrestrial and marine protected areas, their locations, and their features.

The ministry noted that the events feature an air quality monitoring vehicle displaying air quality measurements in surrounding areas. They also focus on raising awareness about endangered local species, both terrestrial and marine. Among these, the whale shark is a species that the ministry works hard to protect from extinction. The pavilion will use virtual reality technology and 3D films to introduce visitors to this species and the underwater world.

Through these events, programs, and activities, the ministry’s pavilion aims to educate the public on sustainable development concepts in which Qatar has achieved significant progress. Various achievements are showcased through educational films. The pavilion also addresses climate change, a critical global issue, highlighting how understanding and addressing these issues can help combat climate change and adapt to its effects, particularly those affecting the Arab region, such as desertification. It underscores Qatar’s efforts to combat this phenomenon through initiatives like the Green Belt and environmental awareness campaigns.

The ministry’s pavilion also showcases several environmental initiatives from participating organizations that have contributed to local environmental development. These include initiatives such as “Seashore – Beach Group,” “Enafra Initiative – Saud Al-Emadi,” and the Qatari Scientific Club. The pavilion offers a series of workshops and lectures focused on these important environmental initiatives, helping to spread environmental awareness, and thinking among the younger generation and school students.
