To protect the park and enhance environmental sustainability, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change launches a cooperation initiative with Umm Salal Sports Club

In the presence of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President of Umm Salal Sports Club, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with Umm Salal Sports Club, launched a cooperation initiative aimed at protecting the park and enhancing environmental sustainability in the State of Qatar. This initiative is part of achieving the goals of the third strategic plan of Qatar National Vision 2030 in the field of environmental sustainability.

The cooperation initiative was signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Musallamani, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Vice President of Umm Salal Sports Club and Head of the Football Department. This step reflects the commitment of both parties to develop joint efforts to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development.

The initiative aims to achieve a set of strategic objectives, the most important of which are fencing the park to protect it from encroachments, raising environmental awareness of its importance, planting local trees and plants to support the ecosystem and combat desertification, in addition to organizing awareness and volunteer campaigns targeting members of society.

In this context, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Musallamani confirmed that this initiative represents an important step towards enhancing national efforts to protect the park, which is an integral part of Qatar’s natural heritage. He pointed out the role of the ministry’s initiatives in raising community awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and engaging various segments of society in efforts to protect biodiversity, thus contributing to achieving sustainable environmental balance.

Dr. Al Musallamani mentioned that the ministry will provide all the necessary facilities to support this initiative, including offering technical expertise and implementing awareness programs that contribute to achieving its goals successfully. He praised the role of Umm Salal Sports Club in this partnership, which represents an exemplary model of national efforts to protect the environment and preserve its natural resources.

He also highlighted that the initiative’s programs include organizing periodic community campaigns for planting local plants to improve biodiversity, along with launching awareness and media campaigns through various media channels and social media platforms to introduce the public to the initiative and its goals.

For his part, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Vice President of Umm Salal Sports Club and Head of the Football Department, emphasized that the cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in this environmental initiative comes as part of the club’s social responsibility and active participation in national efforts to protect the environment. He pointed out that sports represent an effective tool to promote values and raise awareness among various segments of society.

He clarified that the relationship between sports and the environment is closely linked, as athletes can only practice their sports activities in a suitable and healthy environment. He stressed the importance of ensuring that sports align with environmental preservation principles and do not lead to practices that could negatively affect environmental sustainability.
