Ministry of Environment confiscated 120 rhino horns and ivory a traveler attempted to smuggle through Hamad International Airport

As part of its efforts to combat the illegal trade in endangered species, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, confiscated 120 pieces of rhino horns and ivory, weighing 45.26 kilograms, after an attempt by a traveler to smuggle them through Hamad International Airport without the necessary permits.

The ministry called on everyone to comply with Law No. (5) of 2006, which regulates the trade in endangered species and their products.

The Wildlife Development Department urged everyone to carry the necessary permits and documents when bringing any type of endangered species or their derivatives protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

The department noted that permit issuance services are available free of charge through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s website www.mecc.gov.qa. For any inquiries, the department can be contacted at :16066.
