Minister of Environment and Climate Change participates in the National Sports Day during the activities organized by the ministry at the Old Doha Port
In the presence of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change organized a number of sports and recreational activities this Tuesday morning, in celebration of National Sports Day 2025, which is observed on the second Tuesday of February each year.
The activities began with a walking event and several other sports activities at the Old Doha Port, attended by His Excellency Engineer Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada, Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Musalamani, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Nature Reserves Affairs, and Mr. Abdul Hadi Al Marri, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs, along with a number of employees and members of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and their families.
During his participation in the National Sports Day activities, His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized that National Sports Day represents an ideal opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of the connection between sports and environmental protection. He pointed out that outdoor sports activities contribute to spreading a culture of sustainability and encourage individuals to adopt environmentally friendly practices.
In his press statements, His Excellency explained that sports are not only a means to enhance physical and mental health but also an effective tool to support environmental efforts by raising awareness about the importance of preserving green spaces and natural areas, which are an integral part of Qatar’s National Vision 2030. He emphasized that sports activities held in islands and nature reserves help highlight the value of these sites and the necessity of preserving them.
His Excellency the Minister of Environment and Climate Change concluded his statements by emphasizing the importance of concerted efforts across all segments of society to ensure the sustainability of natural resources. He highlighted that organizing National Sports Day every year reflects Qatar’s commitment to achieving a balance between environmental development and community health, as part of its vision to ensure a sustainable present and future for both current and future generations.
For his part, His Excellency Engineer Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, affirmed that Qatar’s National Sports Day reflects the country’s vision to promote public health. He pointed out that the ministry is working to integrate environmental values into sports activities by promoting the culture of environmental preservation while engaging in physical activities.
He explained that the ministry adopts an approach aimed at encouraging its employees to practice sports by participating in sports tournaments organized by relevant authorities in the country. He also emphasized the importance of integrating sports with the use of environmentally friendly transportation methods, such as cycling and using the metro for commuting, to help reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality.
He noted that the ministry encourages the promotion of eco-friendly sports for all segments of society, especially those that do not require expensive infrastructure and support the preservation of the natural environment. This includes water sports, such as swimming and rowing, particularly with Qatar’s unique natural resources, such as Bin Ghannam Island, which is considered one of the important spots for practicing rowing.
Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada, Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs, confirmed that dedicating a National Sports Day in Qatar reflects the vision of the wise leadership in promoting a culture of physical activity within the community. He explained that it has significantly contributed to establishing the concept of sports as a daily lifestyle among citizens, with physical fitness becoming an integral part of societal awareness, encouraging individuals to regularly engage in various sports activities.
Engineer Al Sada pointed out that National Sports Day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness about the role of sports in improving quality of life. He emphasized that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is always striving to connect the concepts of health and sustainability through innovative activities and initiatives. He also highlighted that the ministry has implemented strategies aligned with the goals of National Sports Day by organizing awareness campaigns and educational programs that explain the relationship between sports activities and environmental preservation.
For his part, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Musalamani, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Nature Reserves Affairs, noted that National Sports Day reflects Qatar’s commitment to providing an environment that encourages health and physical activity, while also strengthening the spirit of solidarity among community members. He expressed his confidence that this occasion will continue to inspire the development of a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.
He noted that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s participation in National Sports Day activities reaffirms its commitment to raising awareness about the importance of sports as a tool for enhancing human development. For his part, Mr. Abdul Hadi Nasser Al Marri, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs, explained that dedicating a National Sports Day reflects the leadership’s focus on the status of human beings as a central element in the development journey. He emphasized that sports are a fundamental means to build a strong and resilient community capable of contributing to the nation’s progress.
He confirmed that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change is keen to participate actively in this occasion by organizing various sports activities that highlight the connection between physical health and environmental preservation. He added that sports are not only a means to improve fitness but also an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment and sustaining natural resources.
