A team of experts from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Radiation Control Department participated in finalizing practical arrangements and formulating the final agreement between the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Ministry of Public Health in the fields of radiological medicine and food safety. This occurred during the meeting held in the Austrian capital, Vienna. The participants agreed that the Radiation Control Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change would act as a point of contact with the agency to ensure the effective implementation of these practical arrangements, which will be carried out through the Ministry of Health and signed by them. Mr. Abdulhadi Nasser Al-Marri, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, attended the signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Health. Also present were Mr. Hua Liu, Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency for Technical Cooperation, and Ms. Linda Eid, responsible for Qatar programs at the agency. In his speech, Mr. Abdul Hadi welcomed the constructive collaboration between the Atomic Energy Agency and the State of Qatar, represented by these practical arrangements in the fields of radiological medicine and food safety. He highlighted that the Radiation Protection Management at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change would oversee their implementation. Mr. Abdulhadi Al-Marri highlighted that these practical arrangements would allow the agency to send trainees from member states to be trained in nuclear medicine and radiation therapy at the laboratories of the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar. This aligns with the International Atomic Energy Agency's accreditation of Qatar's laboratories to provide this high-level training, aiming to enhance the safe use of nuclear technology for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, it includes training on food safety laboratory equipment to combat contamination risks and supports capacity-building in these countries to ensure the safety of food exports and imports. He clarified that these practical arrangements stemmed from an agreement made during the visit of the Deputy Director General of the agency, Mr. Hua Liu, to the Food Safety Laboratory, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiation Therapy Laboratories at Hamad Medical Corporation in March of this year where he praised the significant and modern capabilities of these laboratories.
