The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Hamad Bin Khalifa University signed a cooperation agreement yesterday morning in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, and Dr. Ahmed Mujahid Omar Hasanah, President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University. The agreement focuses on collaboration in the fields of research, environmental projects, and air quality, and was signed at the university's headquarters. On behalf of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the contract was signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Nature Reserves. Representing Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the contract was signed by Engineer Saud Abdulaziz Al Tamimi, Vice President for Operations. The signing ceremony was attended by several officials from both sides. The contract supports research on air quality in Qatar and the possibility of making new discoveries to preserve the air purity in the country. It also contributes to supporting and building national capacities in this framework, aiming to achieve comprehensive development goals to enhance air quality and reduce pollution in Qatar. This is especially important considering the increasing urban activity and construction pace in the country, which results in the generation of numerous fine particles that contribute to air pollution. In his speech on this occasion, His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, praised the signed agreement with Hamad Bin Khalifa University. He emphasized that this collaboration will contribute to enhancing the ministry's efforts in environmental sustainability and climate change. It aligns with the ministry's endeavors and vision regarding the importance of cooperation with local universities and national research centers to benefit from their efforts in serving environmental issues and promoting their preservation. In response, Dr. Ahmed Mujahid Omar Hasanah, President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, stated: "We are pleased to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to enhance our joint efforts in the field of environmental protection and preservation. This collaboration includes conducting technical and scientific studies and research that assist the ministry in developing and preparing its plans in this field. It aligns with the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to manage the environment in a way that ensures harmony and coherence between economic and social development and environmental protection.” In his speech after signing the contract, Dr. Ibrahim Al Muslimani, Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, welcomed the collaboration with Hamad Bin Khalifa University. He noted that this contract represents a continuation of the ministry's efforts to form partnerships with civil society institutions, such as universities and research centers in the country. This collaboration aims to enrich the field of environmental research and studies, assess the environmental status regularly, and identify priorities and challenges. Dr. Al Muslimani further explained that through this contract, the ministry aims to develop plans and programs to preserve the environment and sustainably manage its natural components. He emphasized that the ministry is keen on maintaining this constructive cooperation between it and educational and research institutions in the country. This collaboration serves the national environmental efforts and the public interest as a whole. In response to the contract, Engineer Saud Abdulaziz Al Tamimi, Vice President for Operations, stated: "This collaboration will bear fruit and elevate our research and scientific expertise in the field of environment, sustainability, conservation, and protection. Our research centers, with their global experience, will provide support for conducting relevant studies, research, and projects. This will contribute to proposing appropriate environmental recommendations, plans, and projects in alignment with national goals." His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Falih bin Nasser Al Thani, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, also conducted an inspection tour of the research laboratories affiliated with Hamad Bin Khalifa University. These laboratories play a significant role in various scientific research related to environmental conservation and air quality in Qatar. Dr. Ahmed Mujahid Omar Hasanah, President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and officials from both sides accompanied him during the tour. The contract contributes to strengthening the bonds of collaboration in the scientific and research fields, especially regarding the needs and challenges facing the Qatari environment, given its diversity. This is based on the belief in the vital role that scientific research plays in serving societal issues, particularly in the environmental sector. This contract falls within the efforts of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and Hamad Bin Khalifa University to foster cooperation and integration, contributing to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. It aims to address various environmental challenges and enhance collaborative work in multiple areas and perspectives, including the exchange of information and expertise. In addition to supporting air quality research, the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute at Hamad Bin Khalifa University has been making significant efforts and conducting exceptional scientific research in this field. This contributes to supporting the endeavors of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change. The ministry recently completed the establishment of the National Continuous Air Quality Monitoring Network, which currently consists of 35 fixed and mobile stations and is planned to expand to 40 stations in the near future. Furthermore, a central data analysis unit has been inaugurated to analyze air quality indicators and issue regular monthly and annual reports. The collaboration agreement further strengthens the partnership between the two parties, facilitating the exchange of scientific and research opportunities. Both sides benefit from utilizing all available resources to support efforts in the field of climate change and other environmentally related areas, thereby achieving their shared goals. The contract also facilitates the exchange of information and expertise in various fields, including statistics and data. It involves organizing meetings and training sessions among experts and specialists, forming working committees to develop joint plans, and conducting consultative meetings between the parties to activate this cooperation. This fosters collaboration and knowledge-sharing between the two entities.
