Environment Ministry visits waste transfer station in Al Khor aiming to enhance cooperation with the private sector in the circular economy
As part of its support for private sector efforts to achieve the goals of Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy, a delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs visited the waste transfer station in Al Khor. This station is a crucial part of Qatar’s waste management infrastructure, capable of handling up to 1,500 tons of waste daily.
Dr. Saud bin Khalifa Al Thani, Director of Green Development and Environmental Sustainability, reviewed the station’s operations. It plays a significant role in sorting, reducing, and efficiently transporting waste to recycling facilities, enhancing cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Mr. Hassan Mal Allah, CEO of Global, the company operating the station, highlighted its achievements and future plans. He emphasized that the project is pivotal in achieving national strategy goals and circular economy objectives. The project aims to attract foreign investment, enable clean technologies, reduce emissions, and align with Qatar’s target to close and rehabilitate 100% of non-sanitary landfills while increasing recycling rates.
The project contributes to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions from waste management sectors, responsible for approximately 3-5% of global emissions. It aims to attract investments and financing, create job opportunities, and is expected to generate an additional $17 billion for Qatar’s circular economy by 2030, along with nearly 19,000 new job opportunities.
