MECC holds seminar on environmental sustainability in charitable work in cooperation with Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities
In cooperation with the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities (RACA), the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) organized a seminar on environmental sustainability in the fields of charitable and volunteer work.
The seminar aimed to enhance awareness and skills among attendees and participants from various sectors regarding strategies and practices of financial sustainability and mechanisms for integrating them into charitable and humanitarian programs in Qatar. This was accomplished through the participation of many project officials, sustainability experts, planners, and developers in the charitable sector in Qatar, in addition to a group of researchers and stakeholders interested in the sustainability sector.
During its sessions, the seminar highlighted the main pillars of Qatar’s climate action and environmental protection strategy. It also covered the concept, origins, and evolution of environmental sustainability, its principles, fields, and the charitable sector’s commitments towards it. Additionally, it addressed the regulatory framework of charitable and developmental programs and projects in Qatar and their relationship with sustainability. The speakers at the seminar also showcased examples and success stories of some environmental sustainability practices in the Qatari charitable sector.
The seminar saw the participation of Director of the Green Development and Environmental Sustainability Department at the MOECC Dr. Saud bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Director of Relief and International Development Division at Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) Dr. Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, environmental expert in the Green Development and Environmental Sustainability Department at the MOECC Dr. Abdallah Al Tamimi, and development projects expert at the RACA Hussam Abdullah Al Tarawneh.
Sheikh Dr. Saud bin Khalifa Al Thani affirmed that several areas of cooperation with the Charitable Activities Regulatory Authority have been agreed upon for the upcoming period. These areas include establishing standards for charitable projects related to the environmental and sustainability sector, considering the environmental aspect, and achieving sustainable development goals in the activities of non-governmental charitable organizations in Qatar. He pointed out that the seminar came because of constructive cooperation between the Charitable Activities Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, aiming to achieve the shared goals of both parties towards enhancing the principles of environmental sustainability across various fields of work.
The Director of the Green Development and Environmental Sustainability Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change explained that environmental sustainability is a commitment that encompasses all aspects of life, including charitable and humanitarian work. He emphasized that integrating sustainability into charitable and humanitarian work is an important step towards achieving a balance between human needs and environmental protection, thus contributing to enhancing overall prosperity and ensuring a better future for everyone.
He also pointed that the seminar highlighted successful examples of sustainable charitable work in Qatar. The speakers also discussed with the audience strategies that can be implemented to enhance environmental awareness and practices in this field. Additionally, they addressed the principles of sustainability, its standards, and its effective integration into Qatari charitable programs and projects. Emphasizing the necessity of enhancing local community practices to be more environmentally friendly, which aids in protecting the planet for future generations.
