Ministry of Environment and Climate Change begins an extensive inspection campaign in different areas

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has initiated a comprehensive inspection campaign covering several coasts in the northern, central and southern regions, during the Eid al-Adha holiday ending next Saturday, June 22.

The Land Protection Department, which organizes the campaign, aims to spread the culture of preserving the environment among members of society, and raise awareness of sustainable practices and behavior, as well as introducing the public to the laws and legislation issued by the state to protect the local environment, as well as monitoring environmental violations and working to lift them, which contributes to the development of wildlife.

Director of the Wildlife Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Hamad Salem Al Nuaimi, explained that the campaign was planned for the Eid al-Adha holiday to inform beachgoers and visitors to wild areas about practices and violations that harm the local environment. He emphasized that maintaining the local environment’s sustainability is a responsibility for all residents of Qatar, both citizens and residents.

He added that the campaign is part of the ministry’s efforts to preserve biodiversity achievements, with plants and animals flourishing and expanding in Qatar’s wilderness, significantly increasing the green cover. He noted the efforts of the ministry’s reserves sector in launching numerous projects and initiatives aimed at protecting the local environment.

The Director of the Land Protection Department explained that these efforts included the launch of many projects and initiatives aimed at protecting the local environment, which contributed to the restoration of the environment to its health, for example, but not limited to: the campaign to clean the Qatari mainland completely, which was completed by the Land Protection Department in a record time that did not exceed three months, as well as the project of fencing and rehabilitation of all reserves in the State of Qatar, which began with reserves of historical and environmental importance to the Qatari society, pointing to the completion of the rehabilitation of a large percentage within the target number, The Ministry also continues its efforts to finalize the plan according to the timetable set for it.

Regarding the campaign’s implementation stages, the Director of the Wildlife Protection Department explained that the extensive campaign includes several smaller campaigns conducted simultaneously, each targeting a specific area to raise awareness and inspect specific types of violations, thereby achieving the goals of each campaign.

He further explained that the first campaign is dedicated to enforcing the ban on camel roaming in the Qatari wilderness, according to Ministerial Decision No. 23 of 2023, and to raising awareness about the harm of littering. It also aims to prevent the dumping of waste in places other than its designated places, it lasts for 6 days, including the northern, central, and southern regions of the country, and it began on Monday, June 17, and will end its work next Saturday, June 22, 2024.
The second campaign targets coastal areas frequented by the public during the holiday, focusing on cleaning the beaches of harmful waste. which lasts from Monday 17 to 22 June. The third campaign aims to inspect and raise awareness about violations on the northern coasts and their environmental impact and will be organized during the period from Wednesday 19 to Saturday. 22 June 2024.

Director of the Wildlife Protection Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Hamad Salem Al Nuaimi, highlighted that the final awareness and inspection campaigns will target the Khor Al Adaid and Sealine areas, where teams will educate sea-goers about the key environmental protection laws in Qatar. It’s a 3-day inspection plan, starting its work on Wednesday, June 16, Thursday, June 17, and next Saturday, June 22. The campaign provides awareness material for all ages of the region’s visitors, during the following days: Monday, June 17, Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
