The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change officially launched today 26 February 2024 an air quality platform for the public on the ministry’s website, under the patronage and in the attendance of HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie.
The platform, inaugurated on Qatar’s Environment Day, boasts significant capabilities and advanced technology, enabling community members to assess air quality levels across the country through a display screen on the ministry’s website.
The screen presents air quality data in easily understandable color-coded indicators with high precision for each region in the country, utilizing 40 air quality monitoring stations adhering to the highest international standards distributed across all regions of the country.
On this occasion, HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change, emphasized that the focus on air quality is among the state’s priorities and is part of its environmental strategy. He highlighted that the platform reflects the state’s commitment to maintaining air quality according to the highest national and international standards, providing an accessible method for community members to assess air quality levels accurately and reliably in all areas.
For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs Abdulhadi Al Marri, pointed out that the platform’s launch, coinciding with Qatar’s Environment Day, reflects the national efforts exerted by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to safeguard citizens’ health through constructive cooperation among various state entities to establish a comprehensive national air quality network.
This network displays its data on a single screen on the ministry’s website, ensuring easy access to information for all segments of society.
Director of the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department Eng. Hassan Al Qasimi clarified that the air quality platform adopts a clear color-based mechanism consistent with the global system used to display air quality data.
The platform relies on dedicated air quality monitoring stations accredited by specialized agencies in the field, which operate continuously across all regions of the country.
In the same context, Mr. Abdullah Al-Khulaifi, Assistant Director of the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department, explained that the launch of this platform came as one of the most important outputs of the Data Monitoring and Analysis Unit that was launched during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, pointing out that the stations of the National Air Quality Network have so far reached 40 stations, covering eight different regions in the country, namely: Doha, Al Wakra, Al Khor, Al Rayyan, um Salal, Al Daayen, Al Sheehaniya and Al Shamal.
He pointed out that the platform works continuously, and it also provides a comprehensive perception of air quality in the country, and displays the results of the monitoring process through indicators of different colors, so that the public can view them through the website of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and identify the level of quality of each region in an easy and understandable way, noting that its design came in accordance with international standards.
