Ministry of Environment and Climate Change participates in the Water and Food Security Conference

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change participates in the International Conference on Water and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change, organized by Doha University of Science and Technology from February 5 to 7, 2025. The conference will feature a select group of experts and specialists to discuss strategies for enhancing sustainability in arid regions.
The conference will cover various topics related to the impacts of climate change on food security, sustainability, and water resource management, as well as relevant policies and legislation. It will also highlight key plans and future directions to strengthen food security amid increasing environmental challenges and the importance of adopting innovative strategies to ensure water and food security.
His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, confirmed that the International Conference on Water and Food Security in the Face of Climate Change, in which the ministry participates as a strategic partner, represents a vital platform that brings together experts, researchers, and decision-makers from around the world to discuss the increasing challenges posed by climate change on water and food security.
His Excellency stated in his speech during the conference opening that this event provides a valuable opportunity for dialogue and consultation among stakeholders to explore areas of cooperation between climate actions and water and food security plans, contributing to the integration of efforts and enhancing an effective response to these challenges.
He explained that the world is witnessing rapid transformations due to climate change, which threatens water resources and affects food production. He pointed out that the Arab region is among the most affected by this phenomenon due to rising temperatures, water scarcity, and land degradation, which calls for intensifying efforts and adopting effective policies to ensure the sustainability of vital resources.
He noted that the ministry’s participation in this conference as a strategic partner reaffirms Qatar’s commitment to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the response to climate change, aligning with the country’s vision to protect the environment and support sustainability.
He mentioned that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s 2024-2030 strategy focuses on adapting to climate change by adopting policies and initiatives aimed at reducing its impacts on vital sectors, including water and food. He emphasized that the strategy is based on values of leadership, sustainability, responsibility, cooperation, and transparency, aiming to achieve strategic goals in areas such as biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation, improving environmental quality, and raising environmental awareness.
His Excellency confirmed that the ministry attaches special importance to the National Adaptation Plan, which represents a comprehensive roadmap to address climate change challenges. It focuses on enhancing the resilience of vital sectors such as water and agriculture by implementing effective measures, including improving water resource management, supporting sustainable agriculture, and preserving coastal ecosystems.
He concluded his speech by emphasizing that the conference represents an important opportunity for exchanging experiences and discussing best practices in the field of climate change adaptation, urging participants to benefit from the discussions to develop practical solutions that enhance water and food security in the face of accelerating climate changes.
The conference will feature sessions discussing the impacts of climate change on food security and sustainability, as well as the management of water resources and the policies and legislation surrounding these issues. It will also include a number of specialized workshops, including one on integrated water management in agriculture using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, another on smart farming applications through the use of machine learning to combat climate change and enhance food security, and a workshop exploring the intersection of digital technologies and climate change from a holistic perspective on food security and sustainability.
