MoECC holds an awareness lecture for Qatar Youth Centers members

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change conducted an awareness lecture for members of Qatar Youth Centers, titled “Marine Environmental Threats and the Role of Youth in Protecting It,” as part of the annual Youth Support Camp. This lecture aimed to raise awareness among young people about the importance of marine environments and ways to preserve them.

The lecture, presented by Mr. Jassim Lari, Head of the Marine Wildlife Department, covered environmental concepts such as the marine environment, marine habitats, marine ecosystems, and biodiversity. Mr. Lari also highlighted major threats to marine environments, including pollution, overexploitation of resources, habitat loss, invasive species, and the impact of climate change on marine biodiversity.

Mr. Lari discussed the role that youth should play in preserving Qatar’s marine environment and its significance in maintaining and enriching the biodiversity of the country’s territorial waters and shores. He emphasized the importance of individuals sharing this knowledge with their family, friends, and colleagues. The ministry aims to create a new generation of individuals committed to their local environment through these workshops and lectures.

Additionally, Mr. Lari explained the importance of sustainable practices and the significant impact of scientific research and innovation on preserving Qatar’s rich biodiversity. He highlighted various scientific projects and programs undertaken by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in collaboration with local research centers, such as the conservation of the endangered Hawksbill Sea turtles and the protection of the dugong, which have contributed to the recovery and preservation of these species.
