MoECC Participates in 4th Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference and Exhibition
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC) participated in the 4th Recycling Towards Sustainability Conference and Exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Municipality under the slogan “For a Sustainable Future and a Lasting Legacy” at Expo 2023 Doha, from February 14 to 15, 2024.
The MoECC participated with a special pavilion. The Ministry’s researchers also partook in several discussion and dialogue sessions.
Advisor at the Office of HE the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Dr. Eng. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari participated in the panel discussion “Partnership Between the State and the Private Sector in Providing Public Sanitation Services”, in which he presented ‘Performance of Recycled Aggregate from Construction Waste after 5 Years of Service’, scientific research by the MoECC, the process of recycling construction waste in Qatar, in line with the country’s vision for sustainable development.
Officer-in-Charge of the Basel Convention in the Department of Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Eng. Samira Mohammed Al Dosari also participated in a discussion session titled “Success Stories of Countries that Put Laws and Regulations in the Field of Waste Management”. She gave a presentation elaborating on the Basel Convention of controlling the transport of hazardous waste and their disposal across borders, a successful model in the field of hazardous waste management and disposal.
The MoECC’s pavilion featured several scientific research and experiments related to the recycling process. The pavilion also reviewed the Ministry’s efforts in recycling and sustainable development, in line with its vision for sustainable development and achieving the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The pavilion displayed a number of artworks by students of the Department of Art Education at Qatar University (QU). The works included paintings that introduce and raise awareness of the importance of preserving the environment as well as models made from recycled materials to raise awareness of the importance of recycling processes.
It also included awareness-raising posters calling for preserving the environment, showing the process of recycling construction waste that can be used as sand, stones or materials for construction burials which would reduce the carbon footprint and preserve virgin lands, as well as the process of recycling old car tire waste.
The MoECC’s pavilion saw a large turnout from researchers and public and private companies in the field of recycling. Visitors learned about the Ministry’s efforts in the field of recycling and sustainable development. They expressed their admiration for the great efforts made by the MoECC in this field and praised the Ministry’s vision in presenting new and innovative ideas in recycling that would serve sustainable development in the State of Qatar.
