Qatar Actively Participates in Bonn Climate Conference “SB 60”

Members of the Qatari delegation participating in the Bonn Climate Conference (SB 60) stressed the importance of holding a dialogue with the participation of stakeholders, within the work program for a just transition to implement the Paris Agreement, pointing out the importance of the results of the negotiations being consistent with the priorities of countries in their development plans.

The Qatari participation was supported by many countries participating in the conference, as the delegation of the State of Qatar actively participated in the negotiations on all major topics, in order to achieve national interests and in line with the positions of developing countries, namely the Group of 77 + China, the Arab Group, and the Group of Like-Minded Developing Countries.

The United Nations Climate Change Meetings (SB 60) were held in Bonn, Germany, during the period from 3 to 13 June 2024, where the importance of the meetings comes through the fact that they were held at a stage between the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) and the Conference of the Parties included in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which is an important stage in terms of its impact on the outcomes of the United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP29) on Climate Change, to be held In Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan in November 2024.

The State of Qatar participated in the meetings with a delegation that includes a number of national authorities such as the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Qatar Energy, Qatar University, the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, where the members of the delegation made important interventions on the just transition work program, stressing the importance of implementing dialogues with the participation of stakeholders and reflecting the results of these dialogues to be included in the text of the resolution, which paved the way for increasing momentum towards Qatar’s contribution to the negotiations at the ninth Conference of the Parties. and twenty.

During the meetings, many topics related to the phenomenon of climate change were discussed, including topics related to the outcomes of the Paris Agreement, especially the activation of decisions on adaptation to the phenomenon of climate change and mitigation of emissions of gases that cause climate change, and means of supporting the implementation of programs and projects related to adaptation and mitigation, including financing, technology development and transfer, capacity building and transparency.

Among the most important adaptation agenda items discussed were the National Adaptation Plans, the Glasgow-Sharm El Sheikh work programme on a global adaptation goal, the WARS International Mechanism for Loss and Damage, and topics related to agriculture and the Adaptation Committee.
