Qatar participates in the conference “Caspian Sea for Sustainable Development”

Qatar participated with a delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in the conference titled “Caspian Sea for Sustainable Development,” which was held in Turkmenbashy, Turkmenistan, in August 2024.

The ministry was represented at the conference by the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department. This participation reaffirmed Qatar’s leading and active role in supporting international efforts to protect the environment, achieve sustainable development goals, and emphasized its role as an active partner in addressing global environmental issues.

During the conference, the delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change highlighted Qatar’s efforts in environmental protection, which include the environmental legislation issued by the country in recent years. They underscored the importance of the conference as a significant step towards enhancing cooperation and achieving its desired goals, which include preserving the environment in the participating countries.

The conference coincided with the anniversary of the framework convention for the protection of the Caspian Sea’s marine environment. The conference aimed to implement the Caspian Environmental Program (CEP), adopt and develop the international legal framework outlined in the Tehran Convention, which includes the five Caspian Sea littoral states. It also focused on examining environmental issues in the Caspian Sea and associated factors in policy, economics, trade, environment, and human relations. The conference addressed a wide range of issues based on convergence and cooperation among the Caspian Sea coastal countries to create a sustainable development framework.
