The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change celebrates the Gulf Wildlife Day
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Wildlife Development Department, celebrated Gulf Wildlife Day under the theme “Sustainable Marine Wildlife,” which coincides with December 30th every year. During the celebration, the ministry reviewed Qatar’s efforts to preserve the marine environment and its natural components, including the enactment of laws and regulations, and the establishment of nature reserves. It emphasized the importance of international and regional cooperation and highlighted conservation and monitoring projects, such as the National Project for the Protection of Hawksbill Sea Turtles, which began in 2003, as well as projects to monitor dugongs, whale sharks, whales, and seabirds. As part of activities supporting environmental conservation, the ministry organized regular beach and seabed cleaning campaigns, in addition to educational workshops aimed at raising public awareness about the importance of preserving marine biodiversity and natural habitats such as mangroves, coral reefs, and seagrass beds. The ministry stressed its ongoing commitment to maintaining the marine environment and ensuring its sustainability for future generations.
