The summer environmental club witnessed great success and contributes to achieving the vision of the Ministry

The first edition of the 2024 Summer Environmental Club program that was launched June 30, 2024, by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change witnessed intensive participation. The program involved 20 boys and girls from state schools, featuring a series of lectures and field trips.

Ms. Rawda Yousuf Al Subai, the program’s general supervisor, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the ministry’s vision to enhance environmental awareness across all segments of society, especially youth and school students. It aims to prepare them to actively contribute to sustainable development, in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and its fourth pillar focusing on environmental development. She highlighted that the program was scientifically and educationally structured to enhance students’ understanding of local environmental issues, empowering them to play active roles in environmental conservation and biodiversity preservation in the future.

Mohammed Rashid Al Marri highlighted the ministry’s significant efforts in local environmental development, both terrestrial and marine, through various initiatives, programs, and projects across sectors. He noted that through this program, the ministry transfers its developmental and awareness-raising experiences to young men and women. He further pointed out that all indicators confirm the program’s success in achieving its objectives, along with students’ enjoyment of the club’s agenda and diverse activities.

Ms. Salma Al Kuwari mentioned that the club will resume its activities tomorrow, Sunday, July 7, with distinguished activities including workshops for the “Take Initiative, Don’t Neglect” initiative, focusing on environmental preservation by converting food waste into organic compost and recycling old fabrics into useful household items. Additionally, there will be a workshop on the importance of afforestation and its effects in combating climate change challenges. She highlighted the club’s focus on practical training through organizing external trips, such as visits to the Sea Beach Group factory and environmental laboratories.

During the first week, the club organized a lecture introducing the importance of local wild plants by Dr. Ha’il Al Wawi, an expert in crops and wild plants, educating the targeted youth about Qatar’s wild plants and their historical medicinal and aromatic uses.

The Environmental Summer Club also included an external trip to the Quranic Botanical Garden, affiliated with Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, aiming to introduce students to Qatar’s native wild plants. The launching week also featured a lecture by environmental activist Mohammed Saeed Al Kubaisi, introducing students to the local environmental birds and their roles in maintaining the food chain, emphasizing their protection, and providing a safe environment for their return to nature. These efforts are part of the state’s initiatives to preserve biodiversity.

Students of the 2024 Summer Environmental Club learned about the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s efforts in biodiversity conservation through a visit to the Raudat Al Faras Center for the propagation and production of the Houbara Bustard. The trip covered the various stages of production of this bird, utilizing advanced technology, including visits to all units of the center, including the feed factory.
